Why Social Capital Matters for the Success of REDD+ Programs

Background and objective: We quantitatively estimated the impact of social capital on poverty reduction using a survey conducted 335 randomly selected households in 6 villages running REDD+ programs Bago Province, Myanmar. Our central question is whether effectiveness associated with capital, including networks, trust, cooperation, inclusion.Methods: developed tool to measure while considering forest conservation activities, analyzed levels Myanmar.Results: results reveal that has significant effect alleviating household Thus, investment may help alleviate poverty. training participants community forestry members showed relatively higher level than those who did not participate. also found dependents were statistically significantly more likely live poverty, which implies socially marginalized residents tend rely forests collecting products limited effects overcoming poverty.Conclusion: The local strategy for implementing should target promote their by supporting tenures benefit sharing among people.
